Bandhavgarh has enjoyed a long history in conservation; from royal patronage of yesteryears to strict wildlife protection laws of today. These factors have led to the park having the highest tiger density in the world whilst protecting the habitat for other animals. The park is home to mammals like leopard, jackals, jungle cat, fox , wild dogs, hyena and Indian wolf to name a few. The herbivore population consists of Blue bulls, Gaur, spotted deer, barking deer, sambar and the shy four horned antelope. The most prominent omnivores of the forest are Wild Pigs along with Sloth bears. The reptiles seen here are the Indian Python, Krait, Russels' Viper, Spectacled Cobra, Common Vine Snake, Olivacious Keelback, Common Vine Snake, Striped Keelback, Monitor Lizard, Forest Lizard, Garden Lizard, Skink and Fan Throated Lizard. Home to over 250 bird species, bird watching is a delight here. Birdiers visiting the Bandhavgarh national park can expect to see a large variety of avi fauna in the park including, Kingfishers, Egrets, hornbills, Barbets, Herons, Doves, Parakeets, Vultures, Eagles along with the very colourful Peafowl and Red jungle fowl.
